IPOH: The Kedah government should not increase the quota for bumiputeras in housing schemes blindly, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said.
"Problems will come up when developers are compelled to reserve 50 per cent for Bumiputeras and you do not have enough Bumiputera buyers for the properties." He was commenting on the Kedah government's decision to increase the 30 per cent housing quota for Bumiputeras to 50 per cent.Speaking after attending the 59th MCA anniversary dinner hosted by Perak MCA here on Wednesday, Ong said: "If the developers build the houses and are unable to sell, this will kill the industry."The practical way is to give a higher quota in areas where there is a large concentration of Malays.
"Otherwise, such a high quota should not be imposed."
